Our Programmes
Our programmes are designed to work on the three strands: Personal Change, Community Change and Policy Change. We aim to achieve these by raising awareness, by direct action and through our research and advocacy efforts. It is our belief that only by invigorating a critical mass of people to action through awareness that we can generate enough momentum and push in the opposite direction to slow down (and eventually stop) the environmental destruction and climate emergency that is staring at us.
Choked by Waste
With a measly 9% recycling rate for about 8 billion tonnes of plastic ever produced, we are looking at about 91% of of the plastic waste that has not been recycled. And the obvious places where this un-recycled waste will end up are the dump sites, or disposed off by burning (raising the GHG emissions and noxious gases), or ending up in our water ways where the plastic hazard can produce and leave a permanent legacy of toxicity. Education can help increase awareness and understanding of the causes, impacts, and urgency of climate change issues. Awareness empowers individuals to take action against climate change. Education can help communities, cities and countries to develop strategies for mitigating the impacts of climate change and adapting to its effects. This includes measures such as renewable energy adoption, or sustainable agriculture practices. Informed citizens are more likely to support policies and initiatives aimed at addressing climate change. Education can help build public support for climate-friendly policies and hold governments and businesses accountable for their environmental impact…

The flip-side is that this problem-focussed journalism misses out on the communities’ response to the problem. Barring a few instances, it fails to cover stories of human resilience or even nature’s resilience. Our Community Supported Press (CSP), RootsNews, focuses on solutions journalism, thereby strengthening the news ecosystem and strives to bring more awareness…
