Re:Community Edition 5

The beginning of September brought with it the first Sunday and the first Sunday brought around Repair Community Edition 5.

After the rain-soaked, flooded past week in Vadodara, it was a pleasant and pretty warm Sunday. We were happy that we could keep our date with the Repair Community Edition 5 and did not have to postpone it, thanks to the rain gods.

We had a couple of new repair enthusiasts join us for this edition who brought with them a few items to repair. It included two old electric extension boards that had been left for dead. And there were a few (quite a few) old headphones that did not work.

We also had an old RC toy car and another toy that had stopped working.  The old toy was salvaged and for the RC toy car a new 9v battery pack was needed.

Our friend Ashish Ranjan also joined us this time around and brought with him the skills and a nice multimeter for diagnosis.  We might even have Ashish take a small robotics workshop during the next edition of Repair Community in October. Will update on this 🙂

Back to the repairs… so we checked and verified that both the extension boards were working fine. One extension board only required a 3-pin plug top to make it new again. We had some success with headphones, but with the flimsy wires they are quite difficult to repair. We did get one to work partially though and that was a success. We also plan on buying some 3.5 mm stereo headphone jacks to try and repair these headphones better.

Alongside, friendships were forged and phone numbers exchanged. We were joined for a few moments by monkeys too who were probably looking for food as they might have been going without foods due to flood in the city and the habitats of animals being encroached by ‘development’. Yes, floods was another question that we pondered upon. Who is responsible?

Through each edition of Repair Community, we are also reminded that our purpose is not just to repair, but to build a community of people who view the resources of our planet as precious that needs to be preserved and not be swept in the wave of consumerism and eaten by the bottomless pit called consumption.  It is conceived as a fun and empowering way to come together, repair, make connections, forge an aware community and cultivate further, all towards making this world a bit better.

We will see you and more new friends in the next edition in October. For regular repair community updates join our whatsapp group here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/L8J7c3Rn14oDod2hmtSPTA
